In 1996, The Fayette County Board of Commissioners endorsed the Fayette County Transit Study and charged the County Office of Human and Community Services with the responsibility of implementing that Transit Study. Fayette Area Coordinated Transportation (FACT) was created.
FACT operates both Fixed Route and Paratransit or Shared Ride Services.
A Fixed Route Service is a system of public transportation that is open to the public and runs on a set schedule and prescribed route. It’s a system of specific and designated stops where riders are picked up and dropped off. There is a fare for this service based upon the distance the passenger travels. Currently, the fare must be paid in cash only and it is an industry standard that the fare must be in the exact amount. Our Drivers can’t give change. There are a few safety reasons for this policy.
A Monthly General Public Pass may be purchased for this Service which entitles the rider with unlimited use of this service wherever we travel within Fayette County during our hours of operation. The current cost of this Pass is $50 for the 1st month as this includes the cost of the actual Pass Card and then subsequent months cost $45.00. If your Pass Card needs replaced, a fee of $5.00 will be assessed to you.
FACT also offers a Half Fare Program to qualified individuals. To qualify for this Program, you must either be a student or have a qualifying disability. Students must have a current and proper Student ID Card. Those with a qualifying disability must have a Half-Fare Card which may be obtained at the FACT Administration Office.
FACT currently travels into Pittsburgh Monday through Friday on a limited Fixed Route Schedule. We currently offer a 10-trip program with this Route. Ten Tokens may be purchased at a cost of $50.00. Each Token is good for one (1) ride. Riders who qualify for our Half-Fare Offer may purchase this offer for $25.00.
Children under the age of twelve (12) when accompanied by an adult and seniors aged 65 and older ride our Fixed Route Service for free. Seniors will be required to apply for a Senior Transit Card through the FACT Administration Office prior to riding.
PennDOT’s new Fixed Route Intelligent Transportation System, known as FRITS is here. It is the nation’s first statewide Fixed Route Intelligent Transportation System solution. Riders are able to use a website or an app to get live updates on service and see where buses are in real time.
FACT accepts cash, debit/credit cards and personal checks as forms of payment for passes and tokens when purchased in advance at either of our office locations.
Our Paratransit or Shared Ride Service is available only to those who qualify for trips to medical appointments, recreational destinations, shopping, and/or just visiting a friend.
This is an individualized curb to curb service. To qualify for this service, a rider must be aged 65 or older, receive Medicaid or have a qualifying disability. You must apply for and be approved for this service before scheduling a trip with us. Depending on how you qualify for this program, a small Fare may be due for each scheduled trip.
Besides traveling throughout Fayette County for this service, we also travel into limited areas of Pittsburgh and Morgantown, WV.
Qualified riders may still schedule curbside-service appointments two weeks in advance of their desired pickup date, but no later than 2 p.m. on the business day prior to service, provided, seating is available. No reservations will be taken after 2 p.m. for next-day service nor may we book same day trips. There are seating limits and seats fill up fast. To help ensure that your ride is booked and your seat is reserved, scheduling early is crucial.
Please keep in mind that this service is still recognized as public transportation and multiple people may be riding on the same bus going to different destinations. This is the reason for this service to be known to as a Shared Ride service. Trips are coordinated based upon many factors. First on thus bus does not necessarily mean first off the bus.
